Ocean ecosystems face immense challenges, and wildlife biodiversity and abundance are experiencing catastrophic declines. Both the pace and scale of threats to the ocean could benefit from the availability of new tools and techniques.

 

The Ocean Genomics Horizon Scan was a year-long project to examine ten of the most significant threats to ocean health and investigate useful opportunities where biotechnology could play a role in marine conservation. Arkurity focused extensively on threats to coral reef health, and the utility of new methods in reproductive biotechnology and genome engineering.

The report presents the most current genomic solutions to these threats and develops 10 fundable projects framed as “Big Ideas” which would support transformative change in key practices with the promise to for marine health.
