The Task Force was formed to respond to Resolution 86 adopted by members at IUCN’s 2016 World Conservation Congress held in Hawaii. This will be the first global attempt to look at the intersection of the emerging technologies of synthetic biology and their impact on biodiversity conservation.
A study exploring critical biosecurity issues related to genome editing technologies, including policy options and recommendations to assess benefits and risks, balance innovation and prevent misuse, and how to adapt existing, or create new, governance mechanisms to achieve these objectives.
